Over the weekend, some Pixel 5a users complained of having problems receiving text messages on their devices. Users turned to Reddit and the Pixel Community forum to complain about the problem that is exclusive to Verizon users.
Some users revealed that their Pixel 5a functions normally except for receiving text messages. After speaking with two technicians and visiting a local store, no one from Verizon could determine what the problem was.
In the forum page, a Verizon employee known as Jason Stanton (Gold Product Expert) shared his unofficial response about a personal theory on what is causing the issue. As Stanton revealed:
“The 5a is the first Pixel that does not use CDMA service at all, so for Verizon the line needs to be configured as a CDMAless device. This is a fairly known issue with Verizon Tech support so you should be able to get it resolved quickly… Once the line is updated to no longer try to use the CDMA network systems everything should come through just fine.”
As reported by Phone Arena, another Silver Product Expert, Jim Dantin, has addressed the concern on the forum and shared that the “Google Pixel team has investigated the issue.” Dantin echoed Stanton’s statement and advised affected users to reach out to Verizon to request for a new SIM card and have the CDMA-less feature provisioned on their accounts.
So if you are one of the Verizon customers affected by this issue, the best way you can have it fixed is to get in touch with Big Red to let them know you are using a CDMA-less phone and that you will need a new 5G-compatible SIM card.
