Earlier this week, Verizon talked about its plans for its 5G network expansion this year. At the same time, Big Red also unveiled its newly updated 5G plans. But in addition to these announcements, some changes will be taking place on the carrier’s high-speed hotspot allotment.
Big Red confirmed to PCMag that it will be applying monthly hotspot data allowances on its plans. This change will be applied on the plans of existing customers and on their new plans.
Before the change will take effect, Verizon offered unlimited high-speed hotspot on its mmWave 5G plans. Meanwhile, its nationwide 5G and 4G plans only have limited high-speed hotspot allotment. With the new changes in place, customers will only have 50GB of high-speed hotspot per month allotted to their plans.
For those who have been using their Verizon phone for home internet access, this can be disappointing. However, Verizon will be expanding its dedicated wireless home internet service. This will be part of its C-Band launch. The good thing about that is it will have no data caps.
Verizon will be launching its new C-Band network together with AT&T on January 19th. This was initially slated to be launched last December. But because of some requests made by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the launch date has been pushed for six weeks.
