A big fire over the weekend knocked out internet, phone, and mobile service for thousands in Los Angeles County; especially in the Gardena area.
Early Sunday morning, a fire sparked in some bushes and quickly spread into three old AT&T-connected buildings: places packed with batteries, electronics, and power systems critical for your connectivity.
According to PhoneArena, “Your AT&T service tanked this weekend because of a fire which the carrier is clueless about”. The blaze raged on for about five hours, as nearly 100 firefighters battled the flames amid a partial roof collapse, heat dangers, and risky battery fires.
Neighbors were told to stay indoors as smoke and toxic fumes billowed from burning batteries. One resident even narrowly avoided serious harm, waking to a loud boom and spotting a firefighter at risk from the blaze.
The incident also disrupted local road and rail traffic, compounding the frustration for folks already coping with dropped calls and sketchy Wi-Fi.
AT&T said its staff is safe, and its disaster recovery team is on the job; working to restore service as quickly as possible.
