A couple of weeks ago, Samsung was on the hot seat after it was discovered that it was throttling performance of some games. And now, Xiaomi appears to be taking over as it too has been found guilty of throttling performance.
This was discovered by Geekbench co-founder, John Poole. On Twitter, Poole claimed that Xiaomi was throttling performance based on app names. He discovered this after disguising the Geekbench benchmarking app as Fortnite. Xiaomi’s single-core performance scores dropped by 30% with this simple change alone.
And while this practice certainly isn’t something new, the lack of transparency is what is disappointing users. To note, this isn’t the first time Xiaomi was said to be throttling certain apps. Last year, Anandtech reported that the smartphone manufacturer was also throttling apps. Poole’s test only confirms that this issue exists.
Xiaomi has not yet commented on the issue.
