We already know that three days from now, Samsung’s newest flagship device offering, the Galaxy S9, will officially make its first appearance, just in time for this year’s Mobile World Congress, the annual mobile tech show that is set to kick off on February 26th and last until March 1st in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain. But considering that the smartphone is yet to be formally announced, nobody knows just yet when it will hit store shelves everywhere.
According to The Investor, however, the release date of the Galaxy S9 could be less than three weeks from now. As indicated in its report, Samsung’s latest addition to its Galaxy S lineup of high end smartphone devices could be released in major mobile markets around the world starting on March 16th.
Of course, since we are talking about the release date here, the date of the start of the preordering period will almost certainly be earlier. As reported by The Investor, Samsung’s fans who are looking to own the Galaxy S9 could begin preordering their unit on February 28th, at least those who are based in the phone maker’s homeland, South Korea.
There may be some truth to The Investor’s report -- after all, it has cited various mobile operators in South Korea, and it appears that these carriers already have received an official preorder and release schedule directly from Samsung itself.
Meanwhile, current owners of the Galaxy S9’s predecessor, last year’s Galaxy S8, might be delighted to know that Samsung has now begun deploying the Android 8.0 Oreo software update. Some may remember that a couple of weeks ago, the South Korean tech giant had started to roll out Google’s Android Oreo to Galaxy S8 units, especially those that are based in Germany. But after a week, the company had decided to stop the deployment, on account of unexpected reboots being reported by Galaxy S8 users.
Thankfully, Samsung is now resuming the Android Oreo roll out. And as reported by SamMobilehttps://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s8-android-oreo-rollout-has-been-resumed/, the latest deployment now comes with a new firmware version for the Galaxy S8 Android Oreo update (specifically, firmware version G950FXXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8, and firmware version G955XXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8 Plus).
As for owners of other Galaxy smartphone devices, the Android Oreo update will also arrive on their handsets in the weeks to come, but depending on the specific model, the timeline of deployment could vary. For those not sure if their phones will get the update, refer to this list.
