Need a ride during the busy holiday season? If you are a subscriber of Sprint, you may be in for a treat. The carrier is collaborating with transport service provider Uber in offering new users a discount on their first ride.
Specifically, subscribers of Sprint who sign up for Uber as new customers can get a credit of $20, which is to be used the first time they take a ride using the transport service. To qualify, the Sprint subscriber must create a new account at Uber online, and then type in the promo code SPRINT.
This special offer should be a further treat for Sprint customers who are already delighted the carrier's earlier announcement that it will be pre-installing the Uber app on most of its new Android handsets.
When users activate their Sprint smartphones, the Uber app will automatically show up on the home screen. As for owners of older Android handsets or non-Android devices, they can still download the app from the Google Play Store, the IOS App Store, or the Windows Phone store.
No doubt, Sprint customers who are based in any of the 150 cities in the United States covered by Uber's transport service should find the app useful. However, for those who are situated in regional areas where Uber may not offer much advantage, they may not be too happy with another “bloatware” pre-installed on their Android handsets.
As for Uber, they could use some good PR lately. Teaming up with a major US wireless carrier and then offering discounted first rides to boot can certainly be considered a right step towards gaining some goodwill, not to mention new customers.
As for the new clients that Sprint helps provide for Uber, they get to have an extra option for transport. Uber's service involves teaming passengers with pre-screened drivers, with the ride's fare automatically billed to the passengers' PayPal account or credit card pre-registered to Uber. Some actually find Uber's service a better (and even safer) alternative to hailing cabs.
Sprint is offering the $20 credit on first rides on Uber only until December 31st of this year. So if you are a Sprint subscriber who needs all the transport options you can get during the holidays, you might want to sign up for an Uber account now and enjoy that discount on your first ride.
