Samsung phone users, you may be in for a shock. The smartphone manufacturer revealed that they were hit by a cybersecurity incident in the US in late July.
The announcement was made on its support page and was reported by Android Authority. According to the report, an unauthorized third party was able to get their hands on certain personal information of Samsung customers.
However, Samsung assures its customers that no credit card, debit card, or Social Security numbers were compromised. The information obtained in the hack may vary by customer, but it’s possible that the stolen data include customer names, dates of birth, contact and demographic information, and product registration information.
Samsung has quickly responded to the breach the moment they noticed the activity. They have also directly communicated to the customers they have identified as victims of the attack. But so far, Samsung believes no immediate action is needed. They simply warned affected customers to stay vigilant for suspicious messages.
In its support page, Samsung has apologized for the data breach. They also gave their customers a way to check their credit report. You can visit this page for information on how to get your free credit report.
