AT&T has taken the opportunity to lower the pricing of unlimited data on one line of service, and also decided to debut a new, more affordable unlimited data offering at $60 a month. For good measure, the major US wireless carrier is also sweetening its unlimited data offer to mobile users who also opt to avail of the DirecTV service.
Industry watchers believe that AT&T’s latest move is a counter move to that of Verizon Wireless’, but it is worth noting that AT&T still charges $10 a month compared to the Big Red. As for the new $60 a month unlimited data plan, it appears to be a response to Sprint’s decision to also reduce the pricing of its unlimited plan by $10 a month to $50 a month.
Specifically, AT&T’s new Unlimited Plus plans bring 10 gigabytes of tethering per handset (although beyond 10 gigabytes, connection speeds will be throttled to 128 kbps), plus the option to connect a tablet and other devices for $20 per month. Previously, tethering was not made available in the mobile operator’s unlimited plan. On top of all this, subscribers who sign up for Unlimited Plus can also enjoy discounts on AT&T’s DirecTV offerings.
A single line of service on AT&T’s new Unlimited Plus plan will be priced at $90 a month, or $100 for subscribers who elect to also avail of the DirecTV Now streaming TV service. Moreover, users can also choose to get the wireless carrier’s satellite powered DirecTV service on top of their unlimited data, which will be priced at a total of $115 a month (for one line of service, by virtue of AT&T giving a $25 discount to those also getting DirecTV or DirecTV Now). When it comes to four lines of service, the prices range from $185 a month for Unlimited Plus service to $195 a month for DirecTV Now (and then $210 a month for DirecTV). But wait -- didn’t AT&T reveal unlimited pricing a little more than a week ago? Well, the latest pricing now is just a tad more affordable. For business clients of Unlimited Plus, AT&T will be giving a $10 corporate discount.
AT&T’s new Unlimited Choice plan may be more intriguing -- it comes with unlimited data starting at $60 a month for one line of service, albeit network speeds at limited at 3 mbps, and video is streamed at 480p resolution, or a maximum of 1.5 mbps. For four lines of service, the price is $155 per month. Want to compare these new plans to other AT&T deals? You can explore more options and handsets from AT&T at Wirefly now.
