Yup, users appear to have discovered another Pixel 2 XL issue, and this time it involves the phablet’s audio recording capabilities. The problem was first reported in the Pixel user community, with a number of users claiming that whenever they record a video, the audio quality is a bit inconsistent, to say the least. Apart from the thin-ish quality of the overall sound, background audio are also a bit messy. One user has even uploaded a recording that has some muffled audio bits.
For those who own a Pixel 2 XL unit and have already noticed the issue, they should know that Google is already busy coming up with a fix, and the tech giant has even promised that the fix will be deployed in the coming weeks. Users of the smaller Pixel 2 have not reported any similar audio recording issue yet, but if ever they do come across the issue, the general thinking is that the upcoming fix will likely cover the Pixel 2, too.
One can say that this week has not been a particularly good one for the Pixel 2 devices. First, there were reports of the Pixel 2 XL’s screen displaying muted colors and a strange blue hue. Google has since promised to roll out a fix that should take care of the issue. But then only days later, there were reports that the Pixel 2 XL were having burn-in issues, leading Google to immediately launch an active investigation. Moreover, a number of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have also claimed that their units are making weird clicking or high pitch sounds.
Still, Google is doing everything it can to address the issues. For those worried about the burn-in issues, Google has recently announced that it will be extending the length of the warranty on the Pixel 2 XL to two years from the previous 1 year period.
iPhone X preorders may be grabbing most of the headlines right now, but the Pixel 2 devices actually had pretty good preorder numbers, too. During Google’s recent quarterly earnings call this week, Sundar Pichai, the chief executive officer of the company, revealed that this year’s Pixel devices got twice as many preorders as compared to last year’s original Pixel models. Sure, the scope of distribution with regards to Pixel devices will never be able to match that of iPhones (in America, only Verizon Wireless and Google itself sell Pixel handsets), but with Google recently acquiring the mobile business team of HTC, the tech giant may be getting ready to be a major player soon.
