Unlike Apple, LG does not seem to mind sharing features ahead of its upcoming flagship device’s unveiling. With regards to the South Korean tech giant’s latest phablet offering, the LG V30 (which is expected to debut a couple of days from now), the company has, in the last six weeks, started sending out invites for an August 31st event (which many believe to be the unveiling date of the V30), revealed that the phablet will be sporting a 6 inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) display screen, confirmed that the handset will come with the biggest aperture on any recent high profile smartphone release, and announced that the device will feature facial and voice recognition unlocking capabilities.
This time around, LG has now confirmed that the upcoming V30 phablet will be equipped with the South Korean phone maker’s own Hi-Fi Quad DAC (Digital to Analog Converter), and is boosted further by the presence of digital filters and no less than four sound presets. About those presets, they are: enhanced, detailed, live, and bass. Depending on their preferences (or current listening moods), they can choose any of these. Other features worth mentioning are MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) audio file decoding, a microphone that is capable of recording every audio -- from a whisper to a loud bang -- with zero distortion, an audio distortion rate below 0.0002 percent, and a pair of B&O Play earphones.
Going back to the Hi-Fi Quad DAC, this feature first made its debut on last year’s V20, the predecessor of this year’s V30. On the V30, the 32 bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC is powered SABRE ES9218P, which is developed by ESS Technology. While last year’s Hi-Fi Quad DAC did well in reducing distortion and white noise in rendering Hi-Fi audio as faithful as possible to the original source, this year’s Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC takes it a whole step further by delivering more options for personalization.
As for the digital filters, they are typically only made available in pricey digital audio players, but soon, LG fans will be able to experience them on the V30. Basically what the filters do is to enhance the pre- and the post-ringing of the impulse response, and for good measure, allow more customizable options.
The second half of the year has already brought Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8, and aside from LG’s V30 phablet, other eagerly awaited releases include Google’s latest Pixel models, and of course, Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone 8, which might debut on September 12th.
