Apple started the month of September with a bit of a bang, introducing two new iPhones (the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus), a couple of new iPads (the huge iPad Pro and the iPad Mini 4), and loads of other updates and features. It appears that LG wants to do the same thing for the month of October.
The South Korean tech giant recently sent out invites for an event scheduled on October 1st of this year. Save for the location (it will be held in New York City, according to the invitation), there is not much information about the said event. But as often is the case, when phone makers tease little about something, they usually have something big in store.
LG’s event also comes days after a rather busy month of September. Apart from Apple’s much hyped September 9 event, Google is also scheduling an event on September 29th in the city of San Francisco, likely planning to announce a couple of new Google Nexus smartphones (incidentally, one of the two new Nexus devices is made by LG). And after LG’s event, Microsoft is also planning to host a Windows 10 event on October 6th in the Big Apple, which could see the company unveil its new Surface tablets.
In LG’s case, since the company has not shared any further details about its October 1 event, industry watchers are left speculating as to what devices will actually be introduced by the South Korean mobile manufacturer. Some are expecting that LG will announce its new V10 smartphone, a handset that features a secondary ticker display screen.
In an effort to attract more attention in a smartphone industry dominated by the Samsungs and Apples of the world, LG has often resorted to experimental designs for its mobile devices. Take the G Flex 2 smartphone, for instance. First unveiled by LG in January early this year during the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 (CES 2015) in Las Vegas, Nevada, the G Flex 2 sports a distinctively curved shape design, which according to LG, helps users handle the device more easily, and also allows the handset to fit more comfortably in mobile users’ pockets. And after announcing the worldwide rollout of its flagship device, the LG G4, the company decided to release two new variants of the device, the G4 Stylus (a phablet version) and the G4c (a budget version). With its upcoming October 1 event, LG will likely add a new smartphone offering, and this time around, the company is hoping it will attract enough buyers till the holidays.
