T-Mobile continues its streak of introducing new plans to customers. This time around, the wireless carrier is announcing a new family plan that gives 10 gigabytes of data for each member. Under this new family plan, a group of two members would cost $100, while each extra added member and line of service will cost $20. T-Mobile will be officially launching this new family plan this coming Wednesday.
T-Mobile may be introducing a new family plan with the two person $100 offer, but the carrier is also getting rid of an existing option. Specifically, the option that offered unlimited high speed data at a hundred bucks will be discontinued.
In the last few weeks, T-Mobile has been aggressively offering new features and even making changes to old ones in a bid to retain its current subscribers and at the same time get more new customers. Of course, it is safe to say that the carrier is not the only one beefing up its sales and marketing efforts -- other providers are also offering new enticements for customers. But as expected, T-Mobile seems to be the one with the loudest pitch.
Just this Tuesday, John Legere, chief executive officer of T-Mobile, posted a number of tweets criticizing Verizon’s family plan. According to Legere, Verizon’s plan costs $140 per month between the service plan itself and device access charges. Legere then proceeded to tweet a link leading to T-Mobile’s new plan.
One good thing about the new family is that it has a promotional spin in it. Any family or group thinking of getting three lines of service is allowed to get an additional fourth line of service at no cost, for a total charge of $120 for four members, with each person enjoying 10 gigabytes of data. But customers will have to avail of this offer by Labor Day. And even though the program does not come with an expiration date, the free fourth line of service is only good until September 7th of this year. Also, some may notice that the $20 per month fee for getting an additional line of service is twice the cost of T-Mobile’s previous family plan. However, each person gets to enjoy more data than before.
This new family plan from T-Mobile joins other new features that T-Mobile recently introduced within the last couple of months. Just last week alone, the carrier officially announced that customers would be able to make calls and send text messages while in Canada or Mexico without paying any extra fees, via its Mobile Without Borders feature. And a month ago, T-Mobile unveiled a new Jump! On Demand plan that combines leasing and installment, and virtually lets subscribers upgrade their handset up to three times in one single year.
