Early this week, Google surprised the public and launched Android 13 to Pixel devices. The update comes with several improvements to security, privacy, Material You, Bluetooth, and many more. But while this seems like a win for recipients, there have been some issues along with the premature update release.
A day after the OS was released, some Pixel users complained that they received an Android 12 update instead of Android 13. But it turns out that some Pixel users were really supposed to get the Android 12 update at this point.
Another issue that stemmed from the OS update was that the unified search feature disappeared after a phone reboot. Google has already been notified of this and promised to bring this new feature back in “an upcoming release.”
While it seems like things are going well for some Android 13 users, others continue to experience problems with their update. Even if Android 13 was able to exterminate a total of 151 bugs on Pixel devices, a new bug was also added by the update. This bug affects Rich Communication Services (RCS).
As reported by 9to5Google earlier, there are some Google Fi subscribers who have difficulty using RCS with mobile data. These are Pixel device users that have recently updated their phones to Android 13. When they use Wi-Fi connection, on the other hand, they are able to use RCS without any trouble. As pointed out by PhoneArena, this issue was also pointed out by beta testers.
While Google has not yet fixed this issue, a quick workaround is to clear storage for carrier services and messages via the Settings app.
In addition to the RCS problem, some Pixel device users who have updated to Android 13 OS are experiencing a more serious issue. As reported by AndroidAuthority, these users are unable to charge their phones wirelessly.
The Reddit post where the issues are reported show that it isn’t isolated to just one Pixel device. But the majority of the reports seem to be using Pixel 4 and 4 XL devices. These users point out that the issue still occurs regardless of the charger they use.
For a new OS update launch, it’s typical for users to encounter issues. Hopefully, Google addresses these issues soon so that Android 13 users can have a more seamless experience with their updated OS.
