Rather quietly, T-Mobile has chosen to terminate its special pricing for its One Plus unlimited plan, effectively increasing the price from $5 per month to $10 per month, on top of the monthly fee it charges for its standard One unlimited plan. Thus, a single line of service under the T-Mobile One Plus plan is now priced at $80 per month. As for four lines of service, that now costs $200 per month.
The four line premium unlimited plan offered by the third biggest mobile operator in the United States is now more pricey than that of industry leader Verizon Wireless, at least before taxes and fees. Because it can no longer wage a direct price war with most other carriers, T-Mobile is now looking to fully leverage the features and services of its offering in order to compete.
According to a report published by FierceWireless, the features on T-Mobile’s One Plus unlimited plan remain the same, and for good measure, the major US wireless carrier has also decided to add a free Digits line of service, which is only offered to new subscribers or those current ones who opt to add One Plus to their existing One plan.
It was back in August of last year when T-Mobile first debuted its One unlimited plan, just as rival network Sprint was also unveiling plans to offer a cheaper unlimited data plan for customers who were willing to watch video content in standard def quality. What the two mobile operators did basically jump started the so-called unlimited data wars, which saw T-Mobile introduce its One Plus premium offering, with HD video and boosted tethering for an extra $15 per month. T-Mobile would later lower the additional $15 per month pricing to just $5 per month, after Verizon Wireless and AT&T joined in on the unlimited data party. By the start of this year, T-Mobile would then choose to do away with taxes and fees for subscribers of its One unlimited plans.
With the latest changes, it is avoidable for T-Mobile’s unlimited offerings to be compared with Verizon Wireless’ unlimited plan, which also comes with HD video as well as mobile hotspots. A single line of service on the Big red’s plan is priced at $80 per month, while four lines can be availed of at $180 per month (T-Mobile’s is at $200 per month). It bears noting that even though T-Mobile’s is more expensive, it does come with the aforementioned Digits feature, plus unlimited Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi service.
