It is pretty much a sure thing each and every year -- Apple will be unleashing new iPhone models that are supposed to be better and more advanced than the previous year’s offerings, but back in 2016, the tech giant did an unusual thing -- it introduced the iPhone SE. To be perfectly clear, this particular model was not as impressive (hardware and specifications wise) as the usual flagships the company releases every second half of any given year, but this “small” iPhone has since gained a solid following, especially among those iOS mobile users who do not mind owning a simpler iPhone.
So with the iPhone SE’s success, could there be a follow up coming? Nothing is certain yet as of the moment, but rumors sure are flying around in the last few months. About four months ago, it was reported that Apple is said to be already developing the iPhone SE 2, and is planning to release the new model by July of this year.
So what can we possibly expect from the next generation iPhone SE? Maybe not much, that is, as predicted recently by noted Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. Kuo believes that just like last year, 2018 will see the second biggest mobile brand in the planet busy itself preparing to release a trio of new iPhone models, all inspired by the success of 2017’s iPhone X. In other words, Apple might not have enough time (not to mention resources) to release a new iPhone SE model. If a new iPhone SE does launch this year, it will likely only be a slightly upgraded variant of the 2016 version. But could the iPhone SE 2 actually be the one of the three iPhone X inspired models upcoming this year? This actually can happen, at least according to Macotakara.
Meanwhile, for fans of Apple’s ever evolving lineup of iPad tablets, they might be thirsting for some updates regarding new iPad models. Less than a week from now, Apple will be holding its spring event, and even though this activity has been positioned as something that will focus on education, there is a decent chance that the tech giant will be debuting new iPads.
Of course, an immediate question is: which iPad? The latest iPad Pro devices are relatively recent (less than a year old), but the popularity of its Face ID technology might encourage Apple to offer a new iPad Pro variant with the face unlock feature sooner than expected. Last year also saw the company get busy with overhauling its iPad lineup -- the new 9.7 inch iPad basically replaced the iPad Air 2, and the iPad Mini 2 was shown the door about twelve months ago, while three months later, Apple unleashed the 10.5 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro models. Still, we can not discount the possibility that Apple will only be unveiling a minor upgrade, like an updated version of the Mini perhaps.
