LG has revealed that its newest flagship device, the upcoming LG V20 smartphone, will be launching in September later this year, and will be powered by Android 7.0 Nougat, which means it will hold the distinction of being the first mobile device to run on the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system.
LG has a habit of releasing two flagship devices in a year. For instance, back in 2015, the South Korean mobile giant launched the LG G4 and the LG V10. So far this year, LG has already debuted the LG G5, but come September, the LG V20 will hit stores everywhere, continuing LG’s streak of launching two flagships within a year’s time.
When LG published its latest quarterly financials a few days ago, it also announced a plan to launch a new V line of smartphones soon. With the introduction of the new V handsets, plus the continuing expansion of the existing K and X lineup of smartphones, LG should be in a nice position to improve on its sales on a quarterly basis.
So far, not much is known yet about LG’s V20 smartphone. Looking into its predecessor, the LG V10, should give users an idea. The LG V10 phablet comes with a generously sized 5.7 inch display screen with a resolution of 1,440 by 2,560 pixels. The device actually comes with a couple of displays and the second one is placed above the primary screen. The second display serves as a special screen for the user’s favorite mobile apps, functions, and notifications. And even if the primary display is turned off, the second screen informs the user regarding the time, date, and notification status. It is a good bet that the LG V20 will also sport this dual screen configuration.
The LG V10 sported a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip and 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM). However, most high profile smartphone releases this year already boast the Snapdragon 820 processor. Fans of LG are certainly hoping that not only will the LG V20 come with a Snapdragon 820 chip, but also with an upgrade RAM configuration of 6 gigabytes.
The LG V20 phablet will no doubt enter an already competitive smartphone market. Industry leader Samsung is expected to debut its phablet offering, the Galaxy Note 7, within this month. Another industry giant, Apple, will also be announcing its new flagship devices, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, this coming September. Will the LG V20 be able to stand out among that crowd? It remains to be seen, but being the first Nougat device ever should help matters.
