Back in March, Samsung announced that it will be launching a self-repair program for select Galaxy devices in partnership with iFixit. It’s been quite a wait but the program is finally available.
As reported by Engadget, iFixit will help you repair your Samsung device by purchasing components and tools that Samsung has officially sanctioned. They will then help guide you through the repair process.
Right now, the selection is limited to screen, battery, charging port, and back glass repairs. It is also open for select models like the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy Tab S7+. Prices start at $67 (for charging port repair) and go up to $227 (for the display on a Tab S7+).
Apart from the component and guide, these kits come with a return label so you can ship your broken parts to Samsung for free so it can be recycled. Samsung’s self-repair program is currently limited to the US, but more countries could soon offer this program too.
Apple has a similar program but Samsung seems to have a better option. This is because Samsung’s program doesn’t require customers to rent or buy a toolkit or make a phone call to complete the repair process. On the other hand, Apple’s self-repair program expands to other components like cameras and SIM trays.
